One family lives near Modesto, CA, the rest live down near Los Angeles.

This makes for the looong drive between, on Highway 99.

My daughter made me aware of a place they found by accident when making the same drive up to see her brother's family near Modesto....Bravo Farms Cheese Factory!

I stopped and really enjoyed the fun things they had to see, plus had a great hamburger at their homey little cafe.

The Tree House was especially fun to climb!

A couple of months ago I learned the Rabbi and his wife, from Beit Simcha, were putting on a Messianic Praise Concert AND hosting a Messianic Passover for their congregation and other local churches in the Allentown, PA area.

I decided I would take 5 days off of work to attend the regular Shabbat Service and the CoffeeHouse concert on Saturday and then the Passover Seder the following Tuesday Eve. I thought it would be very nice if Naomi could go with me!!! I could ask, all she could do was say, I'm sorry, I won't be able to come. BUT she talked to Dan and they decided she and Eddy could come!

Yay! I made arrangements with Nomi to get my car (my great little Subaru Forester) prepared for the trip.
Then we prayed and asked God to please arrange loads for me so we could caravan with my truck and car to Allentown. God did just that! I got a load from Kentucky to Chicago on Thursday AM. That morning Naomi left Eau Claire and met me in Bloomington, IL, I picked up my load and we drove to Pennsylvannia together! We had 5 amazing days together, everything went as planned and God blessed every aspect of our time together. (Even the weather and where to park my truck!)

On Saturday we attended the morning service, then the "after service fellowship lunch" (an Oneg), then Nomi and Eddy went back to the truck to sleep, and in the evening was the Messianic Praise Concert.

On Sunday, we got up and drove 1 1/2 hours to Hoboken, NJ. Took The Path train under the Hudson River and spent a day exploring Manhatten!! So fun!! Looking close, you can see the Statue of Liberty in the background:

On Monday, we did a self guided tour of 7 Covered Bridges in the Allentown area.
In the evening The Blanks, the Rabbi's family invited us to their personal Passover Seder in their home, Passover began on Monday Eve. It was wonderful, we also learned so much and enjoyed lots of conversation!

On Tuesday, we headed over to a truck stop in New Jersey to relax a bit and get ready for the Community Seder scheduled for the evening. At both seder's the children are included looking for the Afikomen and checking to see if Elijah is at the door. Eddy got to do both of these, he loved it!

This is a pic of my pastor Rabbi Glenn and his wife Pam, Naomi, Eddy, and me:
The next morning (Wed) Nomi packed up and her and Eddy started on their two day journey home.
It was a perfect visit, eveything went so well, we had a wonderful time!!Kathy Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16045482953583832804noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4297002494920654983.post-89705551456446902482011-04-22T19:43:00.000-05:002011-04-22T19:43:22.378-05:00How I found Beit SimchaLast summer I dropped a late load in North Philly and needed a place to park and sleep for the night. Up the road about 20 miles was a Plaza on the I-476 Turnpike. Went right to sleep and woke Saturday morning ready for my daily walk. On my walk I walked passed a church....a Christian Missionary and Alliance Church. It was Saturday Morning , so I thought I might go to their service the next morning. Then I saw another sign in their yard that said, "Beit Simcha", "A Messianic Jewish Congregation", my interest was instantly perked, I had been asking God to lead me to a place where I could learn about Him and become involved in serving others. Thirty-one years before this we had made a trip to Israel, where I fell in love with the country of Israel and the Hebrew language and became interested in Jews finding Jesus, so a Messianic Congregation was very interesting to me.

Long story short - I fell in love with the Jewish way of living in the Messianic way. As the Rabbi of Beit Simcha said, The Messianics find Yeshua in EVERYTHING in the בתנ"ך Tanach (Old Testament) and
הברית החדשה HaVrit HaChadasha (New Testament).

I have spent the last 6 months getting back to Allentown, PA as often as possible to attend services on Shabbat AM. I have learned so much about the Lord and the New Testament's heritage in the Jewish Old Testament Scripture. These verses have been the building stones of my Walk with The Lord.

Phillipians 1:6, 'Being confident...that He who has begun a good work in me will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.'
Is 55:8,9, 'For My Thoughts are higher than your thoughts and My Ways are higher than your ways.'
Is 26:3, 'Thou will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee, because he trusts in You,'
II Tim 1:7, 'For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.'
II Cor 10:5, 'Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalted itself above God, bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.'
Phil 4:6,7, 'Be anxious for nothing, but everything by prayer and supplication - with thanksgiving - let your requests be known unto God, and the peace that passes understanding will keep your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.'
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">It is at Beit Simcha God got ahold of my heart through the people there, that have such joy and genuineness WITH HEBREW. Why is the Hebrew so important? I really don't know, I just know God put a deep love for the language and therefore the people and their land and the need of their salvation.

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I "vetted" the Rabbi with scores of questions. I went online and read and read. I found the Messianic Synaguoge sound in all of the ways I had learned in Scripture: The Gospel, church goverment, discipleship and evangelism, etc, etc. EVERYTHING in me wanted to "plug-in" to this Messianic Synagogue, BUT I was still crippled mentally and emotionally. All of my old sadness and depression and not trusting people and fears and self-hate and worthlessness started to arise. I had never wanted to work through these as much as I wanted to now.

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">So when Theophostic Prayer was mentioned as something I needed I was interested.
<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">http://www.theophostic.com/
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">(Simply meaning Theo:God Phostic:Light - truth)
<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">I asked one of the couples in leadership if they would lead me through a Theophostic Prayer Session. They said Of Course! =) They had seen it help so many others and themselves.

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">It is so profound and yet so simple, a process of recognizing the painful parts of your heart, asking God to bring up a memory when that pain started, when the memory has been located, FEEL the pain and ask God to give you light and truth. Simply HE DOES! Right then and there. That pain is GONE.

<span style="font-family: "Trebuchet MS", sans-serif;">My mind and emotions are now STRONG. I do NOT hate myself, I do NOT feel worthless, I do NOT have fears, I do NOT think everyone I talk to hates me or judges me or looks down on me. I have God's truths in my heart regarding all of these and I am FREE. I feel the power of God in my heart and mind, it is sooo wonderful!!!Kathy Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16045482953583832804noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4297002494920654983.post-45502815127168460052010-10-19T14:51:00.000-05:002010-10-19T14:51:09.801-05:00Our ChildrenThe most fulfilling and wonderful way God used me in my life was the children He gave us. The JOY of my life: III John 1:4 "I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth."

Four years into our marriage, God blessed us with a beautiful, healthy, intelligent baby boy.
Today, almost 30 years later, he is known as - Lukas VanDyke. A wonderful man who loves God and His Word and wants more than anything else to Glorify God in his life. A little more than a year ago Suzy married him, and now their deeepest desire together is to honor and glorify God through Jesus.

She was also healthy, beautiful, and intelligent. We were sooo blessed! She has grown into a beautiful woman who loves God and wants more than anything else to Glorify God in her life, with her husband Ben. They have a little boy Caleb, who is beautiful, healthy, and intelligent, and another baby on the way.
Again, as a tremendous blessing straight from God, he was beautiful, healthy, and intelligent. He has a deep desire to be like Jesus, Christ-like. He is now serving God with his wife Nicki and they have a beautiful, healthy, intelligent baby boy Whitaker.
She grew into a beautiful woman, our 4th born but the first to marry and the first to have a baby! She and her husband Dan love the Lord with all of their hearts and want more than anything to glorify Him in their lives. Their little boy is Eddy, who is also beautiful, healthy, and intelligent!
She also was beautiful, healthy, intelligent. So blessed!! She has grown into a beautiful woman focused on loving God and His Word with all of her heart!!
It was one of the hardest things we ever did. We knew God loved us and were trying very much to accept what God was doing in our lives, but the struggle was very great. We fought bitterness and lacked trust in our loving God and our Savior, Jesus.

After many months of fighting our desires and reality, slowly God through His Word and through loving believers at the church we now had joined, began to work in our hearts. One family, among many, I am writing about today.

Their name is Hobbs. Forrest, Cathy and their children Collin, Lindsey, and Dan.

Through these many years a strong wonderful memorable relationship has developed and lasted.

So, now, when I am out driving around the country and unexpectantly get a load back to Wisconsin, it is a happy and exciting time. Driving into the Hobbs' driveway and knowing how comfortable their home will be is a gift from God to me. One of my daughters married one of their sons, and now have a son of their own, Eddy, which makes everything even more wonderful!
It was amazing, I have a recent blog post about Beit Simcha (House of Joy).

As I was perusing their website, I got on the web and found out about The Messianic Bible project.
I found it very exciting to hear about a Bible specifically being written as a tool to win Jewish people to Christ. With the Messianic prophecies pointing to the fulfillment of Jesus. So I made a donation.

Tonight, just a few days later, the phone rang. I thought it was a telemarketer, but I answered anyway.

I am soooo glad I did. The call was from a lady in Israel! Her name is Elieza. She is with the Messianic Bible project, they make a practice of calling their donors! We talked for quite awhile. She grew up in New York City, but moved to Israel 33 years ago. Her grandson was born in California, then his parents moved to Israel when he was 2. He is not a believer. Presently he is in the Israeli army and is stationed on the Syrian/Lebanon border. Elieza asked me to pray for him.

She said she will call again in a month or so.....=)Kathy Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16045482953583832804noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4297002494920654983.post-79577682958942783102010-09-13T09:24:00.004-05:002010-09-17T09:49:42.963-05:00OT Messianic prophecies prove that Jesus IS the promised MessiahI want to tell you about Ahava.

Ahava went to her parent’s house on Friday and during the Shabbat dinner she told her parents
that she discovered in the Scriptures that Yeshua (Jesus) is the Messiah.
There was dead silence at the dinner table. . .

“What do you mean by that?” her father asked. Ahava told him that she had been studying
the Messianic prophecies for the past year and that God revealed to her that Yeshua is the
Messiah who took away her sins. Her father just stared at her with disbelief.

Then her father put his face in his hands and wept (not with joy), but with tears of anger and sadness.
He then took Ahava to the local rabbi to convince her that Yeshua (Jesus) was not the Messiah,
and for her to understand that she is now worshiping an idol (a man-god).

Ahava was strong in her faith, and after she went to the rabbi with her father, that was
the last contact she had with him or her mother, who are very religious Jews as her father
told her that she is not welcome in the family house until she recants her faith in Yeshua (Jesus).
Ahava was devastated.

A few days later a friend of the family called her to find out if this was true, and during the conversation she told Ahava that her father was sitting shiva (when a Jew mourns for 7 days after someone dies),and that the family considers her dead. All of her cousins see her as a traitor to the Jewish faith.

Ahava who is 24 years old and recently accepted Yeshua (Jesus) as her Messiah after reading the Messianic Prophecies is now very lonely.

She does have many other Messianic Jewish friends who "stick closer than a brother."
As for her family, it is very sad that the Jewish community as a whole rejects Jesus as the Messiah. As much as 55% of Jews who do become believers do so by studying the Messianic prophecies of the OT and realizing Jesus is the Messiah. Click on the title link to this post and find out more about this project. A Messianic Bible will be a great tool for Ahava and other Jewish believers to give to their families.Kathy Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16045482953583832804noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4297002494920654983.post-64995260521283298042010-09-11T11:14:00.003-05:002010-09-13T11:45:41.658-05:00Walks

This summer has been a wonderful time of WALKS

I have always loved Nature Walks. Really the only entertainment I enjoy, that along with swimming! Walking is much more available to me than swimming. Everywhere I go I seem to be able to find a wonderful place to walk. Yesterday, after I dropped my load at the Nuclear Energy Plant in Shippingsport, PA I, yet again, went on a beautiful walk. I walked down a one and a half mile 8% grade country road - and back up. Then continued walking and found a place called Raccoon Municipal Park. I didn't see any raccoon's, but they had a wonderful 1 mile walkway through the woods, it was refreshing and cool.

I have walked in so many beautiful and refreshing places. Here are some pictures. I’ve been and seen so many more places than this. Sometimes I love the environment so much I forget about taking pictures.

He taught about the different sounds of the SHOFAR and when they are used. The fourth sound is the LOOONG blow, that we will hear when Jesus returns in the clouds. There are several members in this congregation who have and blow them during the worship service. I called an "on the road" service truck. They came out, changed my fuel filters, which had just been changed at my recent oil change, but could have been bad if I picked up some dirty fuel.

Nothing. They attached their mobile diagnostic unit to my engine. Nothing. They said something was wrong that their mobile unit could not code.

So, I called Charlotte Truck center, the closest freightliner center. They called a tow truck for me. An hour later I was hooked up to the tow truck and on my way to the truck center... I keep up perfectly on all of the maintenance recommended for my truck and NEVER wanted to be part of this scenario.

We pulled into the center. It was very busy. When I signed in, I found out they were so busy they would not be able to get me in until Monday, it was Friday at noon. =(

They had a Red Roof Inn shuttle bus to pick up stranded truckers. I gathered my stuff, including laundry and emptying my frig, since I would be in the motel all weekend and the Red Roof rooms had refrigerators! I got into my room and "settled in". Put my stuff in their the frig in my room, went down the hall and put my laundry in and then sat on the bed and turned my computer on. Now...what to do until Monday!!??

On Saturday morning I decided to walk to the truck center, about 1/2 mile away. I got into my truck and grabbed a few things I thought I would need for the rest of the weekend. Then walked back and went the other direction a mile to buy some things at the Rite Aid Pharmacy up the road. As I was walking I saw the Saturn Rest and Rehabilitation Center. See my blog to find out what came out of that!! Very Fun! ( "Started as"just" an Idea)

So, after waiting out the weekend..Monday morning came.....

I walked back to the center. My truck was still in the lot. I got in and laid down on my comfy cozy bed to wait. I didn't wait long, about 10 minutes, and my driver door opened. They were here!! They reattached the drive shaft that needed to be disconnected to be towed, they hauled out the battery charger as the battery died over the weekend and drove it, slowly, with no acceleration, into the repair bay. The diagnostic tests began.

As much as I have enjoyed the power and ease of my 335 HP Caterpillar C-9 engine, (Cat C-9) it turns out it has a design defect. The HEUI pump (pronounced: Hewey) shaves off little metal flecks, like metal dust. They get into the fuel as it is pumped to my fuel ejectors, clogging up the ejectors and therefore taking away all of my acceleration. Not only did the HEUI pump have to be replaced, but so did all 6 ejectors, at a cost of $457 a piece. By the time I drove out of there Tuesday afternoon, with the Roadside service truck, tow truck, motel and repairs, it all came to over $6,000, as well as losing the weekend load, all-in-all it was very heavy hit for me.

Special note: I do want to say I am very thankful for James, the Service Dept Head and Don, the certified Cat Engine Mechanic. They were very informative, patient and kind in helping me with all of my questions and concerns. James patiently answered everything I asked and Don took out the little magnifying glass and light and showed me the little metal flecks he was telling me about. They made a very "painful" situation for me as easy to take as could be taken. And I appreciated, very much, the reduction they were able to take off of the retail cost of the parts.

This is the first time in my life I have owned my own "HOME". So, I know these are upkeep costs like all home owners deal with. It is all new to me, but I am still very very very very thankful I have this wonderful truck!! I have pictures on the sidebar of this blog.

I am now back On The Road. I had a load to Maryland and now am on my way from Richmond, VA to Chicago, IL.
Several months ago I had an idea: walk into a Rest Home, see if any of the residents would want to play cards with me.

Decided to walk in...signed the guest book at the entrance and wrote I was visiting the Activities Director...talked to the supervisor, she thought it was a positive idea, so I proceeded to try to find a resident who would be interested!! I talked to one of the residents in a wheelchair and she said, I know a resident who likes to play cards....follow me! =) So I walked down the hall with her to Clarence's room.

She peeked in his room and announced to him he had a visitor. Then I walked in and we said Hi. He was very nice and friendly. We exchanged some pleasant conversation as I told him I was looking for someone to play cards with. It was now 2:15 PM. He said he and some others had a Pinochle game planned for 3PM.

So....my efforts were getting off to a slow start. But I knew, that a lot of times get off to a slow start, but then turn out really great, so I kept talking and relaxed. We talked some more, then he taught me how to play Black Jack, which, I found out is simply another name for 21!! We were enjoying our conversation and our time together.

As 3PM approached we started off down the hall to the activities room for the scheduled Pinochle game.

Clara was there waiting. We talked a little while we waited for Paul to arrive. I mentioned I had never played Pinochle before and really didn't have a clue how to play!! So, Clarence and Clara dealt us a hand from their Pinochle deck and we laid our cards on the table and they proceeded to explain the rules. Then I left my cards on the table and they picked up their hands and we started to play a practice game. As it turned out there are a lot of complicated strategy moves in Pinochle!! My mind was swimming with all they were telling me. BUT I was absorbing their ideas.... a little at a time.

About 10 minutes later Paul showed up. We gathered the cards, shuffled and dealt them to the four of us. Since Pinochle is best played with teams, I was now Paul's team player and Clara and Clarence were our challengers. Amazing timing!! They needed a fourth player and I arrived just in time!!!! =) There are so many variables and strategies I was still feeling quite lost. So for the next several hands I had to pass my hand to Paul to help me know what to bid. They were all so nice and patient and I was working as hard and fast as I could to catch on. We were having a great time!!

Clarence was 82 and had spent his career as a physicist for a company in NJ. He was very sophisticated and intelligent and had so many great insights on life....very interesting to talk to. Paul was in his late 50's (like me), a former cop and later worked for many years with the Federal Drug and adminstration Dept, but his health was very compromised by diabetes...he had had a quadruple by-pass surgery and also was going through physical therapy for a stroke. He was at the residence for rehabilitation and was hoping to be out eventually. Clara was in her late 70's and had health issues also...but what I remember is that she said she had been part of two Pinochle Clubs in her earlier years, she was a master player!!

We played for 2 hours, then they invited me to have dinner with them! Then we continued our game from 6:30 to 8, when visiting hours were over. We had soooo much fun!! By the end I was getting it and doing my own bidding and playing...I was still making some obvious mistakes, but they were just so glad I had come in they didn't care. I was very glad I had come in too.

At 8PM I had to go, visiting hours were over, we said good-bye and I was gone!

I probably will never be back to this place , as I move around so much....but I think I will probably definitely find another place to go. It was hard to carry out on the decision to walk into the Home, present myself and my idea, but I was well received and it was a very positive experience, so I'll see what happens from here!!Kathy Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16045482953583832804noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4297002494920654983.post-59971002624727123452010-04-06T10:35:00.007-05:002010-09-12T23:11:04.295-05:00Afton Visit - Dan, Naomi, and Eddy!!!On March 19th I was in Indiana. When I checked the load that came over my satellite system, it was a load to Fargo, ND! It was Thursday and I delivered on Monday AM, so I would drive through Eau Claire over the weekend! Naomi was gone the Saturday I arrived =(, but she was having a great time at a family women's retreat, (see her blog post http://naomiesther.blogspot.cocm/2010/03/womwns-retreat.html) I stopped at Hobb's to get my mail and visit Dan and Eddy. Eddy and I had a great time. We visited my truck, which he LOVES! and he wanted Grandpa to see my truck too. Grandpa Peter was babysitting for Naomi while she was at her retreat. Then I read Eddy a book, so fun, and Eddy got a little snack and he went down for his nap!
Then I was able to hop over to Schipper's and have a wonderful visit with Beth, Kevin, and Taylor. They are wonderful believers and, as usual, made me feel so comfortable and at home. It was hard to leave their home and drive off to Fargo.

After I dropped my load Monday AM, I waited for another dispatch, nothing came up. So I was "bonused" to the Minneapolis board.

Nomi and Eddy were driving to Afton, just east of St Paul. We actually arrived at their "summer home" about the same time. So I got a first visit the same time Naomi did!
Just like Naomi and I saw my new truck the first visit together when she drove me down to Ohio last March. A little advantage we have both living in the MidWest!

Dan picked a wonderful place for their summer stay in the cities, it is beautiful. A home that was built in the late 1880's and restored so cute. And the yard and grounds are beautiful. Nomi has pics up on her blog: http://naomiesther.blogspot.com/2010/03/our-house-in-afton.html
It was about 60 degrees the next two days I was waiting for a load. The house was very comfortable and "homey" and Naomi and I and Eddy had so much fun together!

Outside we went on a couple of adventure walks. ONE of the highlights for Eddy was the wheelbarrow rides! HaHa, I just remembered Nomi made a mention about that on FaceBook! When she was in Eau Claire and the snow had first melted!
Naomi Hobb's: "It's wheelbarrow weather out there!!" "What is wheelbarrow weather"? "The snow is melted! Eddy and I put away the firewood sled and and got out the wheelbarrow!"

Well, we found a wheelbarrow in Afton too and Eddy especially liked it!

On Wednesday morning I took Nomi and Eddy to a little cafe in Afton called, hmmmm, what is it called? "Wind Sailing"? I can't remember!? But anyway, it was a very nice little restaurant and we had a belated Birthday breakfast for Naomi! It was fun, we drove there in my truck. Then a couple of hours later I got a dispatch for a load out of MPLS to East Moline, IL and I was gone.

It was a WONDERFUL refreshing visit.Kathy Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16045482953583832804noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4297002494920654983.post-85648212799048224272010-02-24T09:05:00.015-06:002010-09-12T23:11:37.655-05:00Surprise Vacation in California!!!
SURPRISE Visit to California!

In the middle of February I got a load to Mississippi and was so excited to get out of Chicago!!! I too was stuck as I tried to back up a little hill of the spot I had parked in! I walked to the TA store to buy a bag of salt - they had none! So, I walked across the street to the Pilot Truck Stop and they also had none to buy, but the manager let me have a cupful out of their salt bag they used to salt their sidewalks. I walked back to my truck, threw two handfuls of salt at the base of my back drive wheels and started my truck and - poof! - backed right out, that was all it took. I was very happy and on my way!!

Well. sort of on my way, except the lines of semis in the aisles. I managed to maneuver my truck through the lot over behind the fuel aisles and find a nice dry spot and pulled in there.

As I looked around here is what I found: (PS I figured out - too late - I had my phone camera on incadescent!! So, thus all of the blue photos. Won't happen again, promise. =)

This truck was stuck, simply on a flat sheet of ice, all morning. He turned the corner to the TA driveway, his wheels slid out from underneath him and he jack-knifed. The wrecker first tried to pull him from the front, didn't work, went to the back, hitched to his trailer, pulled him back off the the ice patch and he was FREE! he backed into the intersection and drove away!

This guy slipped as he was driving UP the driveway, his wheels just started spinning .

The police came and said, you need to get this truck out of the way! DUH!!?? Some people can be so insightful at times!! Anyway, he got his chains out, and was able to then pull up the hill and saved himself a big Tow Truck bill!!! Yay!!

Well, he FORGOT the cardinal rule of driving up a hill on ice - DON'T hesitate! Keep moving! He hesitated, when he tried to get going again, he just slid and slid, banged in the front of his tanker pretty badly and was perpendicular in the driveway.
I was heading to a transfer drop in south Chicago at the UPS docks. I drove north on I-94 from Indiana. My street Pilot took me off the freeway at 79th St South in Chicago. It was 10 miles to go west across 79th St.

It was eye opening. A non affluent area! Beautiful weather and lots and lots of people hanging out at little parks and in front of shops and cafes and bars, etc, etc.

I was driving through lots of stop signs and stop lights, very slow drive. I'll admit, I made sure my doors were locked.

After about 4 miles I saw a bridge up ahead. As I got closer I noticed it said 13' 0" clearance!!

I had to stop in the middle of the street!! My truck cleared at 13' 4", I knew I wouldn't make it!! As I stood trying to figure out what to do, knowing I would probably need to back up on this busy street and turn around somehow!

Two men approached my truck, looking like they might want to help me. They did. They stopped traffic and helped me back and turn around. After turning I pulled to the side of the street. They came up to my window and asked me for a paper and pen, I gave them my little notebook. They wrote out these directions to help me know how to go around this low clearance bridge and get the next 5 miles to my destination!

Then he said, this is what we do all day, can you help us out? I said sure, and gave them $5, I was thankful!! He said they hustle everyday for this money! I was amazed!! I had experienced a new experience in South Chicago.
Kathy Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16045482953583832804noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4297002494920654983.post-70434989671195703422009-07-29T07:05:00.005-05:002010-09-12T23:28:34.038-05:00Transport for Christ Chapel, Grand Rapids, MIEarly Tuesday AM, I dropped my freight in Grand Rapids.
Then headed to the closest truck stop to wait for a new dispatch.

As I drove in the parking lot I saw a welcoming Transport for Christ mobile chapel!!

The chaplain welcomed me and we had a wonderful encouraging talk about the Lord and His Word and the Chapel ministry.

When we were about through, another man came in the door. It turned out he was very inspirational! He had, a long while ago, been in prison. He had gotten saved. Then in 2005, as an individual he started to network with truckers whose food loads had been refused or damaged. He would pick them up and deliver them to local food shelters. In 2007 Transport for Christ encouraged him to do it as a legitimate ministry for Jesus! He prayed and God lead and he started "The Helping Hands for Jesus". (Check out his website!! http://www.hhoj.org/ - right click and you can open in a new window)

When I was there a driver came up and offered him some pallets of bottled lemonade. Then another driver said he had 3 boxes of watermelon. I was amazed and inspired to watch as this man made a channel for people to plug into and then used it to honor the Lord!!

I soon got a dispatch and headed to Indiana and on to Cleveland with a happy and encouraged heart!Kathy Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16045482953583832804noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4297002494920654983.post-39567996053011028102009-07-26T16:56:00.004-05:002010-09-12T23:32:35.386-05:00A "miraculous load" God providedEvery week when Friday comes it is always important to get a good or great WEEKEND load. A load picked up on Friday and delivered on Monday AM.

I delivered in Conneticut on Thursday afternoon, which is a "bad" place for load prospects. A lot of loads go into the New England area, but not much comes out!!
I thanked God for His provision and laid my need at His feet.

Thursday evening I got an unusually late call, about 9PM, from dispatch that they had a load I could pick up Friday morning down in New Jersey and take to Virginia that day. It was a van load so considerably less pay per mile than my truck usually gets, but I took it, just to make some money and get paid to get out of New England, rather than dead heading out.

It was great driving down to New York City and across the George Washington Bridge at 10 at night. The drive took 1 hour and a half as opposed to the four hours it would have taken the next morning!!! That was VERY nice!

I parked and slept at the NJ Turnpike Plaza and drove to the pick up Friday AM.
When I got to the pick-up the shipper said the load had cancelled just one minute before I got there!? I was disappointed, but knew God was in control.

I was looking for a truck stop to go to, to sit and wait for my "new" weekend load!

About 1/2 hour later, dispatch sent me a load that picked up that afternoon and delivered in Chicago on Monday AM! An 850 mile load....sweet.

So, I got "dry run" money to get out of Conneticut and now a great weekend load!!
AND, now I am back in the midwest where the majority of loads run.Kathy Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16045482953583832804noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4297002494920654983.post-67543881667728331072009-07-26T09:54:00.004-05:002010-09-12T23:28:59.774-05:00Continued evidence Of God's Love and Provision for meAs the next week of driving started, I heard, once again, the dreaded "hissing" sound. I also was to a point that I needed a regular service for my oil and filters. I was thanking God for my loads and my beautiful truck. I asked Him to lead me to a place for a service and a check of the new "hissing" I heard.

I was sitting at a very small Pilot truck stop in Mahwah, NJ. There "happened" to be a small truck repair shop right in their parking lot. I walked over and asked them if they could help me! =) Of course they were happy I stopped by, but for me I took my location as providential. They serviced my truck and fix the second air chamber on the back driver side airline for $427. That was not a real "bargain", but I had the money and was pleased it was fixed in a timely matter, that did not interupt any loads I had dispatched.

It was about noon and I headed out to my newly dispatched pick up about 50 miles south of me at 5PM that afternoon.

The front end of my truck started shaking violently. I didn't want to believe it was anything serious!! I slowed down and the shaking stopped. Everytime I accelerated it started shaking again! I did a u-turn and headed back to the shop I had just left 15 miles back.

They could not figure out why it was shaking, but recommended a shop down near the place where my pick up was scheduled. I soooo did not want to turn down the load I was scheduled for. It was a load back into Canada in Montreal.

I drove slowly to keep from shaking. At the next shop, they said they would have time for me the next morning. I was very firm and said that I would have to cancel my load to Canada and REALLY did NOT want to do that. They relented and took my truck in.

It turned out the tiny pull to the left I had felt and didn't think much about was my front end out of line. It had badly worn the inside of my passenger side steer tire. It had also worn out the tie rod ends. So, even though, it cost me $700 for two new tires and another $250 to put them on and realign the front end and replace the two tie rod ends, I was on my way in time to make my pick up on time and head to Canada!!

I was and am very thankful I was safe and on the road again.

The REAL miraculous part of this story goes as follows:

As I drove over the next couple of weeks, it seemed the truck was pulling very slightly to the right now!! This made me very nervous because the last time it was pulling slightly to the left, it turned to be out of alignment and ruined one of my tires and the tie rod ends and cost me $950!!

I was out of money now and didn't know what to do!?

I prayed and thanked God for my truck and job and asked Him to lead me and show me what to do!!

The alignment I had just had done had a 30 day warranty on it. That warranty was up on July 19th. It was July 16th and I had not been dispatched anywhere near Elizabeth, NJ where I had had the work done. I did not want to pay for the alignment check somewhere else when I had a free warranty check waiting for me in northern NJ. I prayed, I was sitting in southern NJ, a couple of hundred miles away from Elizabeth, the closest I had been all month, but still too far away to just "deadhead" to.

A dispatch came over my Qualcomm sattelite system. Pick up in Parsippany, NJ at 4 o'clock the next afternoon!!! I almost couldn't believe it!!! That was only about 15 miles from the repair shop!!! So, I took off, drove to the repair shop and parked in their lot. The next morning they took my truck in, checked it out and corrected the small problem. Also, my generator had not been blowing very cold air through it's air conditioner. I took the easy opportunity to have them refill the freon, which only cost $58 and I was on my way with a perfect driving truck and a great cool air conditioner.

It is such a wonderful feeling to know that God had provided this opportunity so miraculously. I felt very blessed and happy.Kathy Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16045482953583832804noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4297002494920654983.post-81334699050985455042009-07-26T08:35:00.005-05:002010-09-12T23:29:18.787-05:00God's Love and Provision ContinuedI picked up a load in Detroit and headed to Quebec City, Quebec to deliver it the next day.

I noticed a small "hissing" sound coming from the Air Brake button on my dash!

As I accelerated the air pressure built up in my airline system and the "hissing" stopped. The air pressure in my Primary air system built up to the required 120 lbs of pressure. A truck can legally stay on the road if the air pressure is between 100 and 120 lbs of pressure. The pressure in my secondary air line stayed at 115, so I was OK. (If I got stopped and inspected at a "weigh station", and they heard the hissing sound, I would be "put out of service" until a mobile fix it truck came and fixed the leak - very expensive and time consuming!)

As I stopped and started through my trip across Canada, I would hear the "hissing" and then as I accelerated it would stop and my air pressure would build to the legal limits. I was getting very nervous about this. I did NOT want to break down in Canada.

The next day I backed into my dock and the "hissing" seemed to get worse. My freight was unloaded and I took off towards the US border. I was very nervous by this time and was praying that God would protect my truck until I got back into the US.

I crossed the border, by Lake Champlain in northern New York. There was a nice little truck stop a few miles into NY. I stopped and got on the internet. I was praying and asking God to lead me to a place I could have the airline checked, that I could afford!!

It was Saturday AM, a weekend, most places were closed. After about an hour of searching around on the internet, I found a place listed on the NTTS site a national truck repair site. It was 120 miles straight south of me, on the freeway. I called. It was a small business owner who operated out of the garage on his property. He hesitated, because I wouldn't be able to get there until Sunday AM. But, I did sound quite desperate and he relented and said I could come.

I started driving the 120 miles down the freeway. I was checking the air pressure gauge on the dash every few seconds. I was scared, and praying constantly. The pressure stayed up and I kept driving.

I arrived at a truck stop at about 7PM Saturday evening. The truck repair place was only a block away. I was VERY relieved and had a nice dinner and watched a little TV and slept like a baby that night. In the morning, about 7:30 I drove over to the address I had. I drove in and parked. What a great "feeling" to know I made it safely to the repair shop!!!

When I saw the garage where this man had his small shop, I was again relieved. It was all very neat and had most of the high tech equipment you see in a big expensive truck repair shop. When I met the repair man, he put me at ease and seemed to know exactly what he was talking about. It turned out I needed a new air chamber in the back passenger side break line. He repaired it and tested it in about an hour and only charged me $171.00, I was elated!

I paid him, gave him a $20 tip and went on my way!!

What a relief. I thanked God for leading me and taking such good care of me!!

Please see my next post for another incident of God's protection and provision for me.Kathy Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16045482953583832804noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4297002494920654983.post-88195426801388389282009-07-26T08:08:00.003-05:002010-09-12T23:25:35.099-05:00God's LoveBeing alone, On The Road, could be very scary!
Since I have a natural adventurous spirit, it is exciting for me.

Mostly, it isn't scary, because I KNOW God is with me as I trust Him.
Many things happen that make me very aware of God's presence in my life.
A lot of them go by and I privately smile and praise God in my heart for His provision and protection of me!!

Honestly, the scariest part of being an independent owner-operator of this beautiful truck God has provided for me, is having an accident or something breaking down. The time lost in getting something repaired and the money it costs to repair a truck can be devastating. I thank God daily for my truck AND the company He has led me to work for!

I pray daily for His protection and provision. (I also drive very carefully!! Lots of following distance and slow around curves, especially exits.)

Well, I digressed, back to God and His love for me.

When I first got my truck in March of '09, I started praying and asking God to help me with the maintenance and upkeep of my truck. Every 12,000 miles it needs to be serviced, oil and filter changes. It costs close to $200 and needs to be done every 6 weeks or so. It is pretty easy to find places for these services at truck stops and other shops along the way, so that hasn't been too hard. God has provided enough loads for me, through Tri State - the company I contract my truck to, to provide the money to pay for these services.

I have had 3 breakdowns since March, please read my next posts to see how God directed me to places to have these repaired. In my heart, they were nothing short of miraculous and I felt so loved and provided for by God.Kathy Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16045482953583832804noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4297002494920654983.post-55295056538551194002009-07-19T12:07:00.011-05:002010-09-12T23:29:54.217-05:00Transport for Christ Chapel, Greensboro, NC
Howard challenged us to choose to follow and obey Christ. In particular, from John 20:22 where Jesus said to Peter, 'Follow me, What is it to you what I ask John to do?' Paraphrased, of course, but the message being, trust Jesus to use us and bless us as He chooses.

We took my "RV" truck to the shore of Lake Superior! Once I figured out how to plug the RV outlet into my truck sleeper we were able to cook without turning my generator on, that was very cool. (Plus the camp manager didn't get upset with me anymore because he said my generator was too loud!)

After a nice dinner, that Nomi brought along, we watched a movie and went to sleep.

The next morning, we had a great breakfast and got on the tandem bike, with Eddy in tow in his toddler trailer, and headed to Wisconsin Point. It was a beautiful day and we had a great time along the south shore of Lake Superior.

On the way back to the RV site it got very very hot!

We found a bar and grill on the way home and went in. I said to the lady at the bar, It is sooo hot out, I need a drink!! =) She looked at me funny when she saw the baby and said with a question, You mean a drink of ice water!? I laughed and said, yep.

So, after cooling off we headed out.

We got halfway back and a car was coming down the road. Just before it got to where we were on the road it's front driver side tire, rim and all, flew off and came across the road at us! It went in front of us and into the ditch! Very close call! This guy had bought a car for $30 at a garage sale just for the tires and was trying to get it home, he didn't make it!! Nomi dashed off into the ditch and retrieved his tire for him and then we were off again.

We got back to the campsite and decided to go swimming in their pool. It was very nice, and very cool, we had fun with Eddy, he was scared at first, but then got used to being in the water with us.

Then back to the truck, a nice dinner and movie, and to bed!

We got up at 5AM Monday and headed back to Eau Claire!!

We had a wonderful time, mpstly it was so great having time to be with Nomi and Eddy!

Back to Wisconsin.

It has been a rough week load wise, no loads!! That is devastating to a driver - duh!

BUT, I am so excited to go home and visit my daughter and her husband and my little 1 1/2 year old grandson - EDDY!

We - Nomi, Eddy, and I are planning on a two day "RV" trip to Northern Wisconsin up by Lake Superior. The sleeper on my truck has a kitchen and a guest bed, so that is our RV! I am so excited. Nomi has ALL of the meals planned, so I don't have to worry about that.

I have been thanking God for His provision during the past three weeks, I have done very well with loads. So, I know God is in control and am trusting His sovereign love for me. I am asking Him to bless my life with His perfect timing and provision. I know He is taking care of me.Kathy Jhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16045482953583832804noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4297002494920654983.post-30863194335067201802009-06-07T07:39:00.003-05:002010-09-12T23:34:34.592-05:00When did Jesus save you, how did you get saved?Hi, I would love so much to hear how you got saved, please tell us!!
